History of Hope Kuala Lumpur

Hope Kuala Lumpur

5th April 2009 marked a historic milestone for Hope Kuala Lumpur.  On this day, Hope Kuala Lumpur City Center and Hope Petaling Jaya merged to become one entity in order to move forward towards the magnanimous task of fulfilling the Great Commission together.  The main objective behind this merger is to pull our resources and synergise together to forge unity and team work towards a common purpose – church planting, which is the very DNA of God and Hope.  It was aptly themed “Stronger Together”.  It was also on this special occasion that Senior Pastor Simon Eng announced the appointment of Ps Moses Wan as the Executive Pastor of Hope Kuala Lumpur.

Hope Kuala Lumpur can proudly look back to its humble beginnings.  Then, a group of pioneers from Hope Singapore decided to relocate to Kuala Lumpur city and together with 2 other members resident in KL at that time started the church.  On 23rd October 1993, the first ever Sunday Service was held in a pioneer’s house.

Love and joy being the main ingredient undergirded by a strong conviction and commitment to fulfill Matthew 28:19-20, the church gradually grew.  All praise and glory to our Heavenly Father, the seed church eventually grew into 3 centres ie in Serdang, Petaling Jaya & Kuala Lumpur City Center.

The vision for the city of Petaling Jaya saw its birth in 1998 and became a reality when she had her first service on 14 March 1999 at the Multipurpose Hall of a Spastic Centre.  We had a record attendance of 150 people and 2 new souls on that day!

The church met at several locations to accommodate her growing congregation.  So from the Spastic Centre, she graduated to a shop lot in Section 14, a Section 19 warehouse and finally, our very own premises in Section 17 in November 2004.

Today, we boast four congregations from the English, Mandarin and Nepalese language groups and a separate English Student Service.  At the same time, she is faithfully supporting our centres in Teluk Intan, Ipoh, Mentakab, Kuantan, Kuala Bharu and Kuala Terengganu.  We thank God that Hope Kuala Lumpur is here to impact the community for Jesus!
